As Advent begins, Newman staff are beginning to plan for…Lent! Ash Wednesday is February 22, 2023. In recent years Newman has offered a “grab bag” of take-home Lenten resources: the Lenten devotional “black books”, Catholic Relief Services' Rice Bowls, and a brochure summarizing useful information for Lent at Newman. We plan on continuing this. Newman has also offered weekly evening gatherings in Church for prayer and reflection; these have been sparsely attended, with about twenty-five participants. We want to hear how the Newman Community can help you make this Lent a time of spiritual deepening in preparation for the celebration of Easter. This week Friar Tim will be attending the Diocese of Raleigh priest retreat in Wrightsville Beach. On Saturday the Newman Parish Pastoral Council will be on a one-day retreat. Please remember them in prayer.

On September 11th, following the 4:00 PM Mass, Catholic Conversations resumes in the library. Friar Tim will lead the conversations this semester on Markers of our Catholic Faith, beginning with a discussion on the ministry of the Pope.
