A core part of Newman’s mission is to help people of all ages grow in both human and Christian maturity, enriching the whole of life with the leaven of the Gospel. Our adult faith formation ministry addresses the particular needs and interests of adults in our community. Newman’s adult faith formation provides a means to discipleship in a way that grounds one’s ever-maturing faith in life experiences. As noted by the USCCB, “this integration of actual life experience, diverse adult learning needs, the study of Scripture, and the teaching of the Church's tradition will create a vibrant learning environment.”
Newman’s Adult Faith Formation programs reflect three goals (USCCB):
An Introduction to the Gospel of Luke is a series of six audio recordings by Fr. Walter Modrys SJ. The Gospel of Luke will be proclaimed and preached each Sunday after Pentecost to the end of the liturgical year in November. The series lays a foundation for Catholics to read the Bible; examines the structure and special features of Luke’s Gospel; and reflects upon praying with the Gospel of Luke. Lecture notes accompany the recordings. The series is a special project of Believe.Teach.Practice., an audio blog of reflections on the Church’s Sunday readings that was created by Newman pastoral associate BJ Brown in collaboration with Fr. Modrys. It is available at believeteachpractice.org; scroll to the heading An Introduction to the Gospel of Luke.

Newman celebrates faith formation as a lifelong calling through worship, conversation, study, and fellowship, and provides opportunities for faith development across all stages of life. Our goal is to equip and empower all members of the Newman Community to develop a meaningful relationship with God and one another through Small Faith Groups, Contemplative Prayer, and Spiritual Direction.
The joint Newman/St. Thomas More Spiritual Direction Ministry will offer a variety of gatherings and retreats beginning in September.
